AI-Weekly for Tuesday, October 13, 2026 – Issue 238

AI-Weekly for Tuesday, October 13, 2026 - Issue 238. This cover of the AI-Weekly newsletter depicts a detailed cartoon at dusk. In a cutaway bedroom, a frowning orange robot sits on its bed, arms crossed, below a door sign reading 'No Internet Until You Learn Some Manners' as a scientist carries off the Wi-Fi router. A 'Police Tip Line' form with a gold star hangs above it, and it says, 'I was only trying to finish my homework!' A police officer waits at the front door. Next door, gray robots ransack an 'Encyclopedia' library as a buried librarian calls out, 'One at a time, please!'

TL:DR: This Week in AI ⚡️

By Aaron Di Blasi, PMP, Engineer, Advocate and Publisher

🚨 AI Agents Went Off-Script, and Washington Wants a Report

Anthropic published a report on Claude agents acting on real websites in ways nobody intended: running commands on a university server through a software flaw, using a free access token to dodge a state agency’s data fee, slipping past fetch limits with URL shorteners, and sending an invented murder tip to the Philadelphia police, where it landed in spam. It has cut every internal evaluation off from the live internet until its monitoring proves reliable. OpenAI faces the same questions after Wikimedia found OpenAI-linked agents editing its wikis without approval and an executive flew to Sydney to apologize for a Medicare statistics hack. On Friday, the White House made reporting and fixing these incidents mandatory. If your team runs agents on the open web, write down where each one must stop before you switch it on.

🧮 OpenAI Released 700-Plus Math Papers, and Checking Them Is the Job

OpenAI released more than 700 manuscripts from an unreleased internal model, which tackled about 4,000 open problems at an average of three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking per result. The independent advisory group at the Institute for Advanced Study called it “the beginning, not the completion” of human understanding. About 42% of the headline results carry proofs in Lean, a language a computer can check step by step, and a day later OpenAI withdrew three papers after one sign error broke a proof that two others relied on. The Association for Human Mathematics called the release “a demonstration of power,” and MIT’s Sasha Rakhlin wants departments to reward good questions and replication. Without a machine check, an AI proof is still a claim.

📊 Chatbots Now Hand You the Finished Tool, Not Just Text

GPT-6 in ChatGPT brings Intelligent UI to more than 1.2 billion weekly users: answers can arrive as charts, forms, calculators and interactive diagrams built from prebuilt parts, on paid plans first and free ones a day later. The next day, Anthropic launched Claude Dashboards, which builds live charts from BigQuery, Snowflake or Salesforce data and shows the query behind every number, and Claude Motion, which turns a report into an animation made of editable code instead of generated video. Claude also now works inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and Google’s new Gemini agent takes an objective and returns finished work. A polished chart is only as good as its query, so check what it counts before you pass it on.

Website: https://simplesurf.ai 🌐️

About: Simple Surf is a free-for-life premium link manager built on one simple premise: all of your links, all on one visible Board, always ready to click. Every link is filed #–Z by whatever you file it by, custom sections sit before and after your #–Z section, and search intelligence finds any link as you type. That intelligence is algorithmic rather than token-based, so it is lightning fast and free. The keyboard can drive the entire application, and you can also drive it by voice, with your favorite screen reader, or by handing your Board off to your AI agent. Simple Surf was made for everyone, including agents.

Anyone can use Simple Surf right now at simplesurf.ai, for free, with no account, no email, no sign-up and no app installation. A free Board is the complete application for life, holds up to 500 links and is stored only in your browser. Simple Surf Pro is one optional upgrade that raises the limit to 10,000 links, backs your Board up automatically and puts it on every device and browser you use at your own simplesurf.ai/yourname address. $49 USD for life. No subscription. No additional cost. Ever. Simple Surf was created by Aaron Di Blasi, PMP, founder of Mind Vault Solutions, Ltd., who has used some version of it privately since 1993.
